Breathability Differences Between PVC and TPU Waterproofing

PVC is less breathable than TPU waterproofing

PVC is less breathable because it forms an impermeable layer, trapping moisture if not properly installed with ventilation systems. However, this non-permeability enhances its ability to prevent water ingress, making it more reliable in fully submerged conditions like tunnels and basements.

While TPU waterproofing offers better breathability due to its semi-permeable structure, allowing controlled vapor transmission. This helps prevent moisture buildup, reducing the risk of blistering and material degradation in humid conditions.

Flexibility Difference Between PVC and TPU Waterproofing

PVC waterproofing is less flexible than TPU waterproofing

PVC is more rigid because of its thermoplastic nature, but remains flexible with added plasticizers. However,  it becomes less flexible in colder temperatures, increasing the risk of cracking or seam failure compared to TPU waterproofing.

Chemical Resistance Difference Between PVC and TPU Waterproofing

PVC membranes have a narrower temperature stability range, roughly -20°C (-4°F) to 70°C (158°F). But it can be brittle or soften due to temperature differences.
