Costcodle Game: How It Works and Where to Play More

Costcodle Game: How It Works and Where to Play More

Costcodle gives you six tries to guess the price of one Costco food item, and any guess within 5% of the real price wins. It’s free, it needs no sign-up, and the official version lives at costcodle.com.

I played today’s item and won on the fifth guess. I also looked into who makes it, because the name now shows up on several other sites and I wanted to know which one is the game.

How Does the Costcodle Game Work?

Each day the game shows one Costco food item with a photo and a name, and you type a price in dollars. You get six tries. Each wrong guess shows an arrow telling you to go higher or lower.

The colors add a second clue. The How to Play box defines two bands: more than 25% off, and within 25% of the target. Within 5% is a win.

That’s what my five guesses looked like. My first came back red with a down arrow, so I was far too high. My second was yellow and still too high, which put the real price within 25% of it. Two low guesses with up arrows narrowed the gap, and the fifth landed.

Each guess tells you whether to move higher or lower; the feedback tightens as you approach the price.

Does it feel like a game of skill? A little. Past the first guess, the arrows and colors do most of the work, and halving the gap each time got me there in five.

What Do the Stats Show?

The bar-chart button opens a Wordle-style panel with games played, win percentage, current streak, max streak and a guess distribution from one to six. It worked without any account. A Share button appears after you win.

Who Makes Costcodle?

The game is credited to a developer who goes by Kerm, and the page thanks TRADLE and Wordle for the inspiration. The code is public on GitHub under an MIT license, with 41 stars and 22 forks when I read it.

The page footer links the Costco Food Database. The GitHub README credits it too. Do the prices come from there? The README doesn’t say, so I won’t either. The costcodle.com domain was registered in September 2023, which says when the name was bought and nothing about the launch.

The site also has a Buy me a coffee link. Nothing else on the page asked me for money.

Is There a Costcodle Archive or Unlimited Mode?

Not on the official page that I could find. The top bar had only a help button and a stats button, and one puzzle comes up per day.

Site What it offers
costcodle.com The game itself, one puzzle a day, stats panel
costcodle.net Past puzzles by date, an Unlimited mode and guides; says it is operated separately and isn’t affiliated with the developer; domain registered September 30, 2026
Playlin, Wordle Unlimited, Food-le, Scrandle Listing pages that describe the game, about 400 to 500 words each

So searches for the archive and Unlimited end up on other sites. costcodle.net says plainly that the original is at costcodle.com.

Why Are There Spin-offs?

The source is open, so people fork it for their own supermarkets. A Belgian version called Colruydle drew 462 upvotes on r/belgium in January 2026. A Dutch version for Albert Heijn followed the same month on r/Netherlands.

“I saw Northernlion play Costcodle a lot during his DLs, and it really made me want a Dutch version of it.”
– r/Netherlands, January 2026 (59 upvotes)

A comment on the Belgian thread, with 222 upvotes, said what makes that version work is that you can’t cheat, because the supermarket’s own search is too poor to show the price.
