The Spotle game gives you 10 guesses to name one musician, and the site behind it, spotle.io, checks out. I started a round with no account, no download and no payment screen.
Is it safe? Is it free? Nothing I checked raised a flag, and I couldn’t find a price anywhere. The rules, the checks and a few traps are below.
What I Checked Before Calling It Safe
I checked who runs Spotle, how old the domain is, what the site asks for and what it tracks, and found nothing alarming in any of the four.
- Who runs it: the privacy policy names Flatwhite Studios, LLC and lists spotle.io, harmonies.io, crosstune.io, spotle.movie and fermi.gg as its sites. The policy was last updated May 16, 2026.
- How old it is: the spotle.io domain was registered on April 12, 2022, according to its public RDAP record.
- How long it has run: a player’s shared result in May 2026 carried puzzle number #1487. At one puzzle a day, that’s about four years of daily play.
- What it asks for: nothing to start. I typed a guess without signing in.
- What it tracks: the page carries a Google Analytics tag, and the policy says it uses cookies and logs usage data. That’s standard for a free game, but it’s still tracking.
That adds up to a small studio with a long record, not a scam. The one real risk is the name, which other apps share.
Which Spotle Is This?
The music game lives at spotle.io. An App Store listing also called Spotle is a different game: a color-tile puzzle for iPhone from a developer named Bilgesu Kadan.
That listing advertises Endless, Daily Challenge and Zen modes. If you landed on it while looking for the music game, you’re on the wrong Spotle. A third site, spotle.net, is covered in the Unlimited section below.

How Does Spotle Work?
Spotle hides one artist from a pool of 1,000 and gives you 10 guesses to find them. Each guess reveals six attributes, and the tile colors show how close you were.
The site’s own title calls it a Music Wordle Game, and the comparison holds: one hidden answer per day, feedback after every guess, a number on each puzzle.
I typed Drake as a test. Spotle returned a debut year of 2009, Solo, popularity #1, Male, Hip Hop and Canada. That row is the whole game: six facts about your guess, set against the hidden artist.
- Debut: the year of the debut album, or the first mixtape or EP if there is no album. A near miss reads “within 5 years”.
- Members: the number of members. If the lineup changed, Spotle counts the most well-known one.
- Popularity: rank against other artists, with Drake at #1. A near miss reads “within 50 spots”.
- Gender: groups with men and women show as Mixed, and a few artists are listed as Nonbinary.
- Genre: one of 13 options, from Rock and Pop to Jazz, Metal and Reggae.
- Nationality: a near miss reads “same continent”.
How Do You Narrow It Down Fast?
Two of the tiles are ranges, and they say more than they look like. Guess Drake and get “within 50 spots”, and the hidden artist sits roughly in the top 50 of the popularity chart. A “within 5 years” tile on his 2009 debut puts the answer about five years either side of that.
Genre is simpler: with only 13 options, one Correct tile removes the other twelve at once.
I open with household names from different genres. It costs a guess, but it’s worth it: one guess returns a rank bracket, a year bracket and a genre test.
Is There a Spotle Unlimited Mode?
Spotle on spotle.io doesn’t have a mode called Unlimited. A separate site, spotle.net, offers one under the same name, and I found nothing linking it to Flatwhite Studios.
The domain spotle.net was registered in May 2024, two years after spotle.io. It runs its own music game with an Unlimited Mode, up to three hints, a leaderboard and a sign-in, and its page source carries Google AdSense scripts. Flatwhite’s privacy policy doesn’t list it among the studio’s sites.
The rules differ too.
spotle.net ranks artists by Spotify listeners, a phrase that appears nowhere on spotle.io.
On spotle.io itself, the menu offers Rewind, which replays the last week of puzzles, Jam, a race to solve them as fast as possible, and Create, which lets players build a puzzle for friends. Rewind is the nearest thing to unlimited play there.
It stops at a week. A fourth item, Brackets, is a weekly song tournament with daily voting, and the results card on the home page showed 152,975 votes when I looked.
Why Do Some Genres and Lineups Feel Wrong?
Spotle gives each artist one genre and one “most iconic lineup”, and players dispute both calls. The studio doesn’t hide that.
“Genre’s being wrong or misleading is probably one of the most common complaints we get.”

That post asked players to test a revamped genre list. The lineup rule caused a separate fight over Panic! at the Disco. A commenter who said they created the game explained it in a May 2026 thread:
“We label every artist by their “most iconic lineup” which is obviously very subjective, and we actually had Panic removed from the artist pool for years because of it.”
– a commenter who said they created the game, r/panicatthedisco, May 2026 (6 upvotes)
Another player in that thread said Wikipedia lists the band as Rock, not Pop, and that the mismatch cost them their first loss. When a Genre or Members tile surprises you, suspect Spotle’s label before your own memory.
Which Games Are Like Spotle?
Flatwhite Studios lists three sister games in Spotle’s menu: Spotle Movies, where you guess the film, Harmonies, a music connections puzzle, and Crosstune, a music crossword.
Spotle Game FAQ
Is the Spotle game free?
I played a round without an account, a download or a payment screen, and the home page and menu list no price. The site could add paid features later, so check before entering card details anywhere.
Is the App Store Spotle the same game?
No. The App Store listing named Spotle is a color-tile puzzle from a different developer. The music game I tested is the one at spotle.io.
Does Spotle have a new puzzle every day?
Yes. The site’s rules say a new Spotle appears every day, and the 10-guess limit applies to each one. Rewind replays the previous week.
Is spotle.net the official Spotle?
I couldn’t tie spotle.net to Flatwhite Studios, the company named in the privacy policy on spotle.io. It’s a separate site, registered in 2024, that runs its own music game under the Spotle name.
Where can I find today’s Spotle answer?
Spotle doesn’t publish an answer key, because the daily artist is the puzzle. Third-party sites post daily hints, but those pages go stale within a day. The tile logic lasts longer than any hint.
Who makes Spotle?
Flatwhite Studios, LLC, which also runs Spotle Movies, Harmonies and Crosstune. Its privacy policy, dated May 16, 2026, is the only place I found the company named.
