What is Hot Air Welding Gun?

A hot air welding gun is a professional-grade tool designed for welding, heating, and sealing thermoplastic materials such as PVC, TPO, HDPE, and other waterproofing membranes. Aqviz experts often use this tool to weld PVC membranes on terraces, balconies, and basements, or to repair punctures and seams. When considering the hot air welding gun kit, you should consider its wattage and adjustable temperature range. 1080W hot air welding gun is a mid range welding gun.

Using mid range air welding gun always helps to stronger the seam bonding, versatile usage, more durable, light weight, and efficiency in sheet membrane laying. So, we highly recommend it for the small contractors and DIYs. It not only improves job quality but also reduces callbacks due to seam failures.

How to Use a Hot Air Welding Gun?

  1. Prepare Before Using: At the first, you should connect the hot air welding gun to a stable power supply (220 V or 110 V, depending on your model). You should ensure the surfaces to be welded are clean, dust-free, and dry.
  2. Pre-Heating: Allow the gun to preheat for 2-3 minutes until heat airflow is consistent. For PVC sheets, this is typically 260°C to 350°C (500°F to 660°F) .
  3. Start Welding: Position the nozzle between the overlapping sheets at a 45° angle. Then move the gun slowly along the seam while pressing the material with the pressure roller.
  4. Let the Sheet for Cooling: After welding, you should allow the seam to cool naturally for at least 2 minutes before testing strength. Once finished, switch the gun to its lowest temperature setting and let it run for 1-2 minutes to cool the heating element before shutting down completely.

Efficiency tip: We usually pair this gun with a seam tester tool to immediately check weld strength. This minimizes rework and ensures waterproofing integrity.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Aqviz Experts

Excellent power, heat, and Efficiency for the investment. Highly recommendfor the DIYs, and small contractors.

Aqviz Recommendations

From our 15+ years of waterproofing experience, this welding gun kit is one of the most cost-effective and practical tools for membrane installation in our sites.

  • Pros of Hot Air Welding Gun:
    • Lightweight (1.5 kg) and easy to handle on rooftops and vertical walls.
    • Multiple nozzle options allow precise work, especially around edges and corners.
    • Provides consistent, strong seams compared to chemical bonding.
    • Roller included, which is essential for pressing seams and avoiding bubbles.
  • Cons of Hot Air Welding Gun :
    • Requires practice every time. Beginners may burn membranes if the temperature or speed is wrong.
    • Works best on PVC ; for TPO or EPDM , a higher-grade welder may be needed.
    • Needs constant power supply, so not ideal in remote areas without generators.
