I made one guess with no account to see what comes back. I typed Inception. It returned 2010, $839M, a score of 84, PG-13, director Christopher Nolan and Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead. The year came back with an up arrow, the box office and score with down arrows.
Who Makes Spotle Movies?
Flatwhite Studios, the team behind the music game Spotle, makes Spotle Movies. The footer reads “A Flatwhite Studios game” and credits Tommy and Paul, and movie data comes from TMDB.
Is it free? The page says “free, one movie a day”. Nothing asked me for an email, a download or a card.
How Do the Eight Clue Tiles Work?
Each guess reveals eight attributes of the film you picked, and each tile turns green for an exact match, yellow for close, or gray for no match. A new film starts every day at midnight EST, from a library of more than 3,000 titles.

Studios fold together. Walt Disney Pictures shows as Disney, and Fox Searchlight as 20th Century Fox. The age rating also changes with your region, which you set in Settings.
How Do You Use the Arrows?
An up arrow means the mystery film’s value is higher than your guess. A down arrow means it’s lower. That turns three clues into a search that narrows with every guess.
My Inception guess shows how it works. The up arrow on 2010 says the mystery film is newer. The down arrows say it earned less than $839M worldwide and scored below 84. Three guesses like that fence the film into a narrow box before the director or cast tiles turn green.
Which clue matters most? Director and cast, in a library this big. I’d open with a famous director’s best-known film, because one green tile there cuts the field to a single filmography.
One wrinkle remains. The home page describes box office as inflation adjusted, while the How to Play page only says worldwide gross. Treat that tile as a bracket, not an exact figure.
How Do Hints Work in Spotle Movies?
Spotle Movies offers two hints as you play. The first appears after your fifth guess and the second after your eighth. After my first guess, the game showed a “Hint in 4” countdown.
Why add hints at all? The studio said so itself during a preview week in 2026:

Can You Replay Old Puzzles, and How Does It Differ From Spotle?
Yes. The menu has a Rewatch option that lets you play any film from the past 50 days. The music game covers less ground, since its Rewind replays only the last week.

What does yellow on a cast tile mean?
Yellow on a cast avatar means that actor is in the mystery film but in a different role type. A lead in your guess who is a supporting player in the answer shows yellow, and the reverse does too.
Where can I find today’s Spotle Movies answer?
The site doesn’t publish one, since the daily film is the puzzle. Third-party sites post daily hints, but they go stale within a day, while the clue logic keeps working.
